Tokaware

Install the Tokaware desktop app

Download the installer for your system from the latest release, run it, and Tokaware opens in its own window and keeps running in the tray. The files are not code-signed yet, so Windows and macOS ask you once to confirm you want to run them.

Download

Pick the file for your system on the releases page, which links each release's files at downloads.tokaware.com with SHA256SUMS.txt, the checksum of each to check a download against.

SystemFileHow
Windowstokaware-windows-x64.exeRun it: Tokaware installs for your user, gets a Start menu entry and opens.
macOS, Apple Silicontokaware-macos-arm64.dmgOpen it and drag Tokaware to Applications.
macOS, Inteltokaware-macos-x64.dmgOpen it and drag Tokaware to Applications.
Linuxtokaware-linux-x64.AppImageMake it executable (chmod +x), then run it. If it asks for FUSE, install libfuse2 or run it with --appimage-extract-and-run.

The first start

  • Windows: SmartScreen may say it protected your PC. Click More info, then Run anyway.
  • macOS: after dragging the app to Applications, allow it once in System Settings, Privacy & Security, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine "/Applications/Tokaware.app" in Terminal.
  • Linux: nothing to confirm; the AppImage runs as it is.

What the app adds to the website

  • It lives in the tray, so scheduled hellos and notifications keep going with the window closed, and the tray icon shows whether each provider has room.
  • System notifications when a limit resets, crosses 90% or runs out, with quiet hours and muted accounts in Settings.
  • This machine: switch which account the Claude Code and Codex CLIs are logged in with, and say hello on a schedule so a 5-hour window starts before you need it.
  • Connect this computer to your team, so its Claude Code and Codex sessions show on the Team page.
  • It keeps itself up to date on Windows and Linux; on macOS it tells you when a new version is out.

Where it keeps its data

Everything is in one folder: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Tokaware on Windows, ~/Library/Application Support/Tokaware on macOS, ~/.local/share/tokaware on Linux, or the folder a copy installed as AI Cooldown already had. Settings, General, opens it. The key that encrypts saved logins in its local database is made on your computer the first time it runs.

Want the exact reset for your accounts?

Connect your Claude and Codex accounts to Tokaware and get every window with a live countdown, which one is limiting you, and which account to use next. Free for individuals, and it reads the same official usage endpoints the CLIs use.

Questions people ask

Do I need an account to use the desktop app?
No. As a guest everything stays on your computer and the app talks to Claude and OpenAI directly. Signing in with your Tokaware account shows the same synced accounts as on the website.
I had AI Cooldown installed. What happens to it?
It keeps working, but it no longer updates itself. Install Tokaware, the same app under its new name, from this page: your accounts, sign-in, settings and history stay as they are. On Windows its installer replaces AI Cooldown, which still opens at login as Tokaware; on macOS, drag Tokaware to Applications, then move AI Cooldown to the Trash; on Linux, run the Tokaware AppImage in place of the old one.
Port 3477 is taken. What now?
Set the TOKAWARE_PORT environment variable to another port before starting the app. The window's storage is kept per address, so stick to one port.
